As you may know, I posted my hometown video yesterday right here on this blog. It’s for a contest to see just who can make the best hometown video. I entered that on the 18th, I think. My husband is also entered into the same contest and frankly, I think we both have prize winning videos to show off. If you click on the link at the beginning of this post, you will get to my video. If you stay here and watch this video, you will see my husband’s hometown video. He has a rich imagination and loves things with special effects. Since we are still just beginning to learn how to do these things, this is a pretty good special effects video. At least I think so! So, here is my husband’s video. That’s him beaming in!

This project was born out of a contest that I entered a while back concerning a person’s hometown video. This was a work of love that I did not actually think I was going to be able to do properly. The truth is that I had no idea what to do for a video like that. And then my daughter sent a wav file of her friend’s singing. He had sung as a personal request at a party for someone. He said it wasn’t something he would pick for himself but he did like the song. When I heard it, it was the answer to my dilemma. I had the basis for my video in hand. With his permission and a good deal of footage from around our area, the My Hometown Video was born.

It has now turned into a sort of travel brochure for our area. Some local people have seen it and loved it because it shows a positive side to where we live. I enjoyed doing the work on it with much thanks to my wonderful husband who took a lot of the footage with our camcorder. He could walk to places I could not go. Also many thanks to the guy who did the singing on the video, Mr. Kenny Ray Jackson, a wonderful singer/song writer, though he did not write this one. It will be familiar to many of you! Here now is My Hometown Video.

If you enjoyed this, please give me your comments. If you want to visit, please check out traveling in Arkansas! It is amazing. By the way, you can also tell me if you didn’t like it. Just be kind. That’s all I ask. If you are not kind, I delete!

In 1964, we didn’t know about things like fast computers, IPODs, fast auto insurance quotes online, cell phones, buying everything under the sun on auction sites on the internet, instant messaging. It did not exist for us. An instant message was when a friend called on the phone we now call a land line. We were still buying real vinyl records in speeds like 45s and 33 1/3 and playing them on a record player. The top twenty were on the radio at night. And we loved to listen to groups that talked about broken hearts, fast cars, crashes on the curves, surfing and going to the prom. We girls screamed listening to the Beatles. The boys never understood why we did that.

One of my favorite groups was The Supremes. Diana Ross was there but she had not been spotlighted just yet. Originally a quartet in the 50s, they came on the scene with three wonderful singers when one of the girls left the group. This particular song came out in 1964. Here are The Supremes with Diana Ross singing lead. The song is Baby Love.

I noticed that it’s been a couple of days since I wrote something here. Usually, I have a few things to talk about. Mostly, it has to do with getting good deals online or at the store, saving money and the pain at the pump that is a constant problem. Today, I am sitting here trying to come up with something to write and it just is not happening. Writer’s block is something I have dealt with before on another blog that I have. But here, this is an unusual situation. And I am certain that it will not stay this way but for now, I am blocked. Nada. Nothing happening. Sigh.

Perhaps I could give you a touch of the old time stuff. I love to share music, especially for the Boomers. That might work.

I found one that I know is really old since it was out there when I was in high school. That makes it the 60’s though I do not have a date on it. The singer is Marcie Blane. And by the way, for those of you who have no clue what that round thing is…it’s a real record on a turntable. Yes, there really is such a thing as a turntable. The song is “Bobby’s Girl”. Hope you like it.

Yes, I did like that song then. Kind of like it now too. It wasn’t all sad. That makes it okay for me right there.

For some years, I had heard Patsy Cline on the radio. Then, she died in a plane crash in 1963. For a while, the songs she sang were heard. But after a while, they faded into the night and I did not hear much of her music until Loretta Lynn’s movie, Coal Miner’s Daughter, came out. Once again, I heard Patsy Cline songs being sung by Beverly D’Angelo. She sounded just like Patsy. How refreshing to hear her again.

Here is an old recording of Patsy Cline singing Walkin’ After Midnight.

I am a Trekkie and not ashamed to admit it. For years, I have loved the original series, Next Generation and all of the movies. They are fantastic. I do have one problem with the last movie made…no one should kill off Data regardless of the story. BAH!

But the rest of the movies and series are great. With that in mind, I did come across a video song that covers the theme of the original series quite well. The only thing is that this is a bit different, just a little. Here is Star Trekkin’.

Were you impressed? LOL!
