If anyone has the idea that recalls are slow and not happening much, I can tell you that I receive information concerning massive numbers of recalls. I can only put so many here on the blog. There are definitely way more than I report to you. It would be in your and your family’s best interests to find the list of all the recalls that are happening here and in the other countries. It is a large list.

For the 15th and 14th, these are the ones that I have chosen to report on. Some of them will be almost a copy of the actual recall since there is so much info to be passed on. Here is a list:

1) Shindaiwa Corp. recalls BACKPACK BLOWERS. Voluntary recall. The fan can separate off and cause other parts to also separate from the casing. This causes the plastic parts to fly out of the blower and pose a hazard to people nearby. Injuries and lacerations are possible. At a previous time, these same blowers were recalled due to a fire hazard. There have been 13 incidents of injury. The model numbers involved are…Models EB8510 and EB8510RT. All models up to serial # 7014728 are included. Serial Numbers through February 2007 production (S/N 702XXXX) which are located on the side label. These machines are black and blue with a red and black label that reads, “EB8510, Shindaiwa.” STOP USING THE BACKPACK BLOWERS IMMEDIATELY!! For more information please contact Shindaiwa at (800) 521-7733 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s Web site at www.shindaiwa.com

With all the recalls coming in, I cannot do the list justice by giving all of them so I have picked out some that appear to be more important. If I have erred in this, please understand that when I look at that list, it is huge. Most of the items are foreign items that I really do not even understand what they are. But the ones that I do know about are going to be reported here when possible.

So, the items that were mentioned in the latest recall list:

1) KFC corp…voluntary recall of Double Chocolate Chip Cakes. Allergy problem because of individual ingredients not named including eggs, milk, wheat, soy ingredients and possibly traces of tree nuts. These ingredients do not show up on the label individually. The cakes come in a plastic domed container with either clear or black plastic bottom. There has been ONE allergic reaction only. For more information concerning these products, please call 1-800-call-kfc.

2) THIS IS NOT A RECALL==1995-2000 Toyota Tacoma. Rust problems. Because of a lack of good corrosion protection, these years are subject to excessive rust problems in states that use salt on their roads. The result can be a perforation of the metal in the frame of the vehicle. Over a period of time, the company will send out letters to all owners of these vehicles. If you currently have this problem, please contact your local Toyota dealership. IF this condition has occurred in your vehicle, Toyota will either fix the problem or purchase the car and value it at excellent condition regardless of actual condition.

3)Recreational Vehicles w/ Dometic Refrigerator. The list is too numerous to put here. National RV, Inc. recreational vehicles AND New Horizons RVs trailer units are involved. The RVs for the years 2001-2003 are noted. Concerning the New Horizons trailers, the year is 2003. There may be a defect in the two door refrigerator unit. The boiler tube is the defective part. Because of the defect, coolant may be released from pressure into an area with a flame resulting in a fire.
Quote from the list page: CUSTOMERS MAY CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION’S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153); OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

Although the Toyota Tacoma is not a recall, it is important to take note of these conditions. These are the recalls for last couple of days.

Since I have decided to put up a few of the recalled items on this blog, I find that the list is impressive. You have no idea how much is recalled literally every day. I cannot list everything with a lot of description. If I did, I would not be able to write anything else. The list is long. It would be wise to look up recalled items yourself. But for those who do not have time, here is a short list of things recalled in the last few days:

1) 2008 Freightliner Semi Truck: Several versions for 2008. Briefly, the problem is in the air brake system. The air leaks out under certain conditions making the brakes inoperative. Check with your local Freightliner dealership for more information.

2) Saab 9-5 Auto for the years 2002-2008. Failure to comply with the federal guidelines on the front seat head restraints. If in an accident, injury could occur. Please contact your Saab dealer.

3) 2006-2008 Hyundai Sonata Auto: Front right seat airbag which detects child in the seat. If the person is not a child but is small, the airbag may not deploy in an accident. Please contact your local dealership for more information.

4) Charm Key Chains: Voluntary recall by Walmart recalling product named “Hip Charm” Key Chains due to the possibility of lead exposure. If a child gets ahold of this product, it can cause a high level of lead in the child. A 9 month old child has been injured with this product. This product has a number of charms with a button, clover, leaf, heart and a sand dollar. The charms are on a silver-colored chain. The words “Hip charm” and UPC (#31568 11017) are printed on the product’s packaging. MADE IN CHINA!!! What a surprise…not.

I can’t help thinking that what this country needs to do is ban China from sending us any other products due to the high level of recalls. Each time I hear of a recall that has a product from China, I am that much more for banning their products altogether for the safety of our own people.

Thanks for reading this blog. Happy Shopping!!

Normally, I would take the recalls from the news and report them here so that you can decide what to do about that. Now, I have another resource that will include some things that do not get reported on the news as well as those that do. These are the recalls for today:

Puffed Wheat/ Rice Cereals from Malt-O-Meal company are being recalled due to at least 23 people in some 14 states that suffer from salmonellosis, a strain of Salmonella, that was recently found in the unsweetened varieties of Puffed Rice and Puffed Wheat Cereals that are produced by the same company. These foods are produced under the nationally known brand name as well as a number of others that include Acme, America’s Choice, Food Club, Giant, Hannaford, Jewel, Laura Lynn, Pathmark, Shaw’s, ShopRite, Tops and Weis Quality. The “Best If Used By” dates are from April 8, 2008 (coded as “APR0808″) through March 18, 2009 (coded as “MAR1809″). These products should be thrown out quickly. Do NOT USE THESE PRODUCTS thinking they will be okay. For more information concerning this recall and the other recall please go to www.malt-o-meal.com/recallinfo.

Battery chargers for toy helicopters from Hobby Lobby. These batteries are being recalled due to a fire hazard. These are the Lithium-polymer battery chargers and lithium-polymer batteries from China (what a surprise). This is a voluntary recall. This product is being sold with the AT600 Falcon Helicopter kit. These kits were sold between April 2006 and July 2007 at Hobby Lobby. Stop using the products immediately. You can get new batteries and a “smart” charger by emailing sales@hobby-lobby.com with your information. The website is www.hobby-lobby.com.

These are the recalled items for today. Happy Shopping!!

Lately, there have not been as many recalls but today there is one for Aunt Jemima Pancake Mix. This affects those who buy this product in 17 states across the country. The actual health risk is only if the batter is eaten raw or undercooked. They have not had anyone sick from this product at all. Most of the recalled boxes have not made it to the shelves of stores yet.

The affected products are Aunt Jemima Pancake and Waffle Mix: Original, Original Complete and Buttermilk Complete. They have a freshness date of between Feb. 8, 2009 and Feb. 16, 2009. The products are packaged in two-pound and five-pound boxes with any of the following 10-digit UPCs: 30000 43272, 30000 05040, 30000 05070 and 30000 05300.

If you do have any of these products with the specific codes, please return them to the stores that you bought them from where they will give you a full refund. If you need more information on this recall please call 1-800-407-2247 to reach the consumer relations line.

Six days ago, Topps Meat Company had to recall 22 million pounds of ground meat that could have been contaminated with E.coli. That was the second biggest recall in United States history. Now it is about to go out of business because of that recall. 87 workers will lose their jobs also because of that recall. The company is in New Jersey.

It is hoped that people will heed the recall and throw the contaminated meat away.

With all the recalls going on from China, it is sad to hear that there is one from a meat process plant from this country. Topps Meat Company is recalling 22 million pounds of ground meat products due to possible E. coli contamination. There are three people currently ill from the contamination and more being investigated. At this point, please, if you have bought Topps meat products recently, check with the company or your grocery store to see if what you have has been affected.

Usually, I say happy shopping here but not today.
