For years, I was on the road for one reason or another. At the beginning, I thought I was invincible, you know, like teens always think they are. At age 18, I literally knew everything. I’m sure no one else can relate to that! LOL! But, I put myself in danger on more than one occasion through extreme stupidity and wishing I had something that would have helped me fend somebody off if I needed it.

Now, more than ever, people need that same assurance of safety, something to fend off unwanted come-ons or attacks. The world is worse now than when I was a teen. A company gave me their product to review and experience for the purposes of personal safety. While I have not actually experienced the product since it would have to be tried out on a human and that’s a problem, from what I have seen, it is a wise choice in safety products. And this is only one of several self defense products available. It’s called the Mace Pepper Gel. Because it’s a gel, it sticks firmly to the offender and will still be working when the authorities show up. I know that I feel safer just having the product.

Quite frankly, this stuff is going to hurt if sprayed so it would be wise to make sure of your target. The eyes will be irritated, very strong. This product will definitely take down someone who is attempting to attack. With a range of 18 feet and 7 one second sprays in the can, this is sure to deal with the bad guys quickly even if the local officials aren’t there on the scene fast enough.

By the way, the company that sells the Mace Pepper Gel is sending out an email to those who sign up. It will have product specials and safety tips included. Why not sign up?

This place, too, is on the strip in downtown Hot Springs, Arkansas. We took a little look at their place and it was fantastic. The website will be okay but the shop is better by far. Not to say that the website won’t be great, it is. It’s called The Savory Pantry and has a large number of jellies and preserves. We ate the apple butter at the restaurant next door and I can tell you that, although it is not my Grandmother’s homemade apple butter, it is pretty close to it!!

Apple Pecan Preserves, Apple Cinnamon Syrup, Stonewall Kitchen Cinnamon Apple Pancake Mix, and for those who don’t like apples…Cranberry Chutney, Roasted Raspberry Chipotle Sauce, Hot Pepper Jelly, Olive & Herb Bread Spread and so much more that I cannot put it all here on this post or I would be here all night long. It is awesome. I plan to get some of these before too much longer and, frankly, I have found a place to get Christmas presents too!!

Laptop Shopping

I can tell you that I have been shopping for a laptop for a while now. The only thing that keeps me from actually having one at this time is the lack of money for the one I want. It’s that simple. I have a laptop need that exceeds my pocketbook.

Now, I have looked at some pretty impressive machines. For instance, the Sony VAIO VGN-FZ140E/B is a beauty. I love the idea that it weighs in at a bit less than 6 lbs. For someone who has to carry it around a lot, this is heaven. Check out the chip on this baby. Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7100 with Intel Centrino Duo mobile technology. You know how laptops usually have a fairly small hard drive compared to a desktop? This one has a 200 gig hard drive. The screen on the monitor is a whopping 15.4 inches. Not bad!! Memory–2.0GB DDR2. You can play CDs and DVDs with this one too.

So, if you are looking for a laptop, at least check this site out and especially the Sony. This place has an awesome number of choices if you don’t want to try out the one laptop.

Six days ago, Topps Meat Company had to recall 22 million pounds of ground meat that could have been contaminated with E.coli. That was the second biggest recall in United States history. Now it is about to go out of business because of that recall. 87 workers will lose their jobs also because of that recall. The company is in New Jersey.

It is hoped that people will heed the recall and throw the contaminated meat away.

I like looking at furniture but I usually am checking out living room items and bedroom furniture. It is a rare thing for me to be looking at Dining Furniture but this was fun. I have picked out a couple of the table and chair sets that I would put into my house when I move into the bigger house we intend to have soon.

I have to admit that since I’m a little older now, the traditional look is great for me. I am not liking the more modern tables and chairs but I am certain there are many of you who do like that type of table and chairs for your Dining Room Furniture. The first one is really a family dining room table and chairs. I love it because of it’s simplicity and it looks like a family is going to sit down any minute now.

Second one is the more Formal Dining Room Furniture but I love it because our family always has one time of year that we sit down to a more formal dinner and that’s at Thanksgiving. I think we would use this set more since it’s inviting us to sit and be comfortable. I really like them.

I suspect that if you are currently looking for a new Dining Room Table or if you will be in the future, you might want to mosey on over to this website to see what else they have. I can tell you that they do have a large selection. I believe that they will have at least one you like.

The biggest retail chain in the country, Walmart, has jumped the gun on getting the Christmas spirit going. They are putting out the Yuletide products on shelves already, way ahead of the traditional time that is usual. However, I have no idea what usual is anymore. It used to be that they put Christmas things out about two weeks before Christmas. That did not satisfy so it was right after Thanksgiving. It was that way for many years. But then, stores wanted to get ahead of each other and started putting things out right after halloween. Now, Wally is going one more. It’s putting Christmas out ahead of that spooky time.

So, if you are already on the hunt for Christmas presents, now would probably be a great time to head for Wally and get in on the bargains, if any. By the way, I am not endorsing Wally World. I actually am not happy with them because they are not exactly the cheapest place to go anymore. So, buyer beware!

Happy Shopping!!!

Robots are coming of age in a big way and soon. What was once only in the movies is now becoming reality…robots to do housework, watch the home in security mode and take care of the kids while the parents are out of town. No, they are not the babysitters though someday that will happen. You wait. It will.

A bot similar to the one that iRobot Corp has now that is essentially a vacuum cleaner but has a webcam on the top of it is being developed for home use. It is designed to make the parents feel as though they were almost home. The parents can send the bot into the bedroom of the child, the child could open a book right in front of the bot and the parents could read to the kid while they are far away on a business trip. That sounds like fun to me….doesn’t it to you?

What’s next? The bot can hug and kiss ‘em goodnight so that the parents can go out on the town while the kid sits at home waiting for them to show back up? Oh please. I really think that they need to get some humanity into this project before they start building R. Daneel Olivaw.

I do not think I will plan on shopping for that just yet. Happy Shopping for other stuff though!!!

After the first of the year, or so say the toy companies, the consumer will be paying much higher prices for the toys they now are buying for Christmas. Buyers can expect to pay 10% higher prices for the increased vigilance of the toy industry and the stores that sell them. Due to 3 million lead-tainted toys from China, toy makers and stores are spending more on safety.

For instance, Barbie, which sells for about $6.99 now could go up to $7.70. The analysts say that this is the biggest single price hike in a number of years. They also say that consumers are likely to see higher prices on many other Chinese imported items like children’s clothing and fish.

Apparently, the largest increase in cost comes from the stores, toy makers and the third party testing sites who are making absolutely sure of the product prior to releasing it to market. The cheaper costs of the Chinese items have been due to Walmart and other discount stores campaigning for lower costs.

Companies have been in emergency mode for some time now since the last three recalls. They have removed items from the shelves and sent them to third party testing to make sure of the safety. Most of this is going to come out in the consumer prices on the shelves. Testing, overtime and labor will drive the price up in the short term but the ongoing safety vigilance will end up costing enough for the price to rise permanently.

The toy industry is pushing for federal regulations on mandatory toy testing and inspections but the Senators are interested in even more regulations than that like fines for selling tainted toys or failing to report such dangerous items.

This is only my opinion here but I believe that a certain amount of safety rules should be in place but I do not believe it is in our best interests for the government to put things like fines for selling and failing to report the toys. This is beginning to sound like it could end up being a witch hunt eventually. This is not a good idea.

Toy safety is now a high priority in the Senate committee room since there have been three recalls of toys made in China. Each time, the problem appears to be lead paint which the U.S. does not allow on toys in any form because of it’s toxic nature to children. Appearing before the Senate committee that is going to look into toy safety are the head of Mattel, the CEO of Toys “R” Us and acting chairwoman of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Nancy Nord.

Along with this committee investigating these recalls, Senator Amy Klobuchar (Minn.) has introduced a bill that will treat any lead in children’s toys and other products as banned hazardous substances. And, in a johnny-come-lately style, China has agreed to ban the use of lead paint in children’s toys coming to America. What a nice thing for them to do and after only THREE recalls, too.

It’s not really a surprise that China is FINALLY getting around to doing something about their incoming nasty stuff since they are under tremendous pressure to change things. Let’s see, toys, pet food, fish and jewelry, have all been recalled because of health and safety problems. When do you think they got the clue? Yes, I am being sarcastic because it took this long to get their attention and it took a Senate committee meeting over it and a Summit with them over this same subject.
