It has been so many years since I had heard this man’s songs but I found this tonight. I always loved Neil Sedaka’s songs because I could actually understand them. You know what it’s like to listen to a song over and over again before you get all the words, right? That’s what I usually had to do with some of those singers even in the 1960s. This was in 1966. The singer is Neil Sedaka and the song is “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do”.
And if you would rather see the more modern video, here is a later version of the same song with Neil Sedaka on piano.

I can only tell you that for years, I have enjoyed both Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, separate and together. They are both star singers, both famous in their own right but when they get together, it truly is awesome. I love Islands In The Stream and have for years. It’s best sung with these two rather than others. Here are Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers singing Islands In The Stream.

I just love music of many types and tunes. But my favorite of all time is the gospel and praise music, especially from the Gaither Vocal Band. Usually, it consisted of Bill Gaither, Guy Penrod, David Phelps and someone else. It was Mark Lowry for a while. They come and they go but the music is always top notch. Here is the Gaither Vocal Band singing ‘There Is A River”. I heard this song when Danny Gaither sang it in the 60s. It was awesome then and this version is awesome too.

Having thought about it, these guys did some of my favorite tunes for the 60s, 70s and 80s. They are still out there singing their tunes and enjoying the fans. We watch the older television series quite often. Full House had the Beach Boys on and the cast of Full House sang with them. I think it was Kokomo at the time. But we do love the Beach Boys! This is Surfin’ USA.
I think I will give you a two for one today. Can’t get enough of the boys, can you? So, here is I Get Around.
If you have any other videos you want to see, as always, put them in the comments section.

I grew up listening to rock and roll and country music all the time. It wasn’t easy because in those days, they weren’t doing “crossover” music much yet. But, I could find the ones I liked a lot on the radio at night nevertheless. I think one of the funniest songs Johnny Cash ever did was the one called “A Boy Named Sue”. When I first heard that, I laughed myself silly. Of course, these days, it’s just as funny to me as it ever was. Here ya go:

This is so funny I had to put it up here. It is, after all, a shopping blog first and foremost. I have listened to Weird Al for years and have found him to be incredibly hilarious. But this is even better than most because I have and still do buy things on eBay. It seems that he climbed into my head about this. That sounds scary, yes? For some reason, I have the “buy it now” sickness. There is no cure. One has to completely stop, abstain, leave and do other things. Not easy for me, I assure you. eBay is a sickness that we must all get over.
When you are finished watching this video, please remember that it is a sickness and that we can get help…..uh, I was just thinking that I saw this perfectly great set of steak knives there a couple of days ago………I wonder what the bid is now??? No! I will not succumb to this pressure….but there were those shoes I really needed. I could look while you listen to the video again, right?

Roy Orbison has been a favorite singer of mine for many years. I cannot recall the first time I heard him but I was already a fan by the time the first song was over. Roy was a huge song writer having such hits as “Crying”, “Candy Man”, “Dream Baby”, “Working for the Man”, “Leah”, “Pretty Paper”, “Blue Bayou”, “Mean Woman Blues ” and “It’s Over”. Then in 1963, “In Dreams” became a hit. After that, Roy toured England with the Beatles, who were unknown at that time in this country. When Roy went on stage that first night, he had 14 encores before the Beatles could go on stage themselves.
Here is “In Dreams” by Roy Orbison:

It was the year that I spent some time traveling. I was out of high school and found that I could not stay at home nor could I go to school again for a while. So, traveling was the choice. Having roped my best friend into traveling around the country, we set off to find our…whatever it was we were seeking. At the time, we visited some carnivals because they looked so exciting…for a couple of grape-headed girls, I mean. We simply had no idea about anything. The rides at this one carnival kept playing this song over and over again. That’s it for the nostalgia for tonight.
This is Johnny Rivers singing “Baby I Need Your Lovin’” on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1967.
If you are looking for a specific song, group or single singer, please let me know and I can try to find it. You do not have to be a boomer!

It has been years since I’ve seen the Smothers Brothers. They came to our town when I was in high school. At the time, our class was asked who might be available to usher for the local theater because a celebrity act was coming to the stage there. I volunteered not knowing who it was. It was the Smothers Brothers. They were awesome. I have loved them ever since but have no idea whatsoever if they are still working or what. I should probably search that out. Here are the Smothers Brothers singing “They Call The Wind Mariah”.
There are many more Smothers Brothers videos. I plan to have other videos of the 1960s soon.

Times come when I just have to talk about music which is much a part of my life. Music courses through my mind and spirit. So, I want to share with you a couple of “oldies” that I love.
I had not heard of Bob Carlisle but he was on the scene a while when I heard a song that he describes as being about his daughter, now grown and gone from home. It is a very lovely song from a Dad to a daughter who was getting married. I’m sure you will cry over it. I certainly did. It’s an awesomely written song. It comes on the CD “Butterfly Kisses (Shades of Grace). It is an oldie by music standards since this CD was released in 1996.
The second one is by Jennifer Knapp. Now, I am not really “plugged in” to what’s popular now but this young lady was pretty impressive to me in 1997 when her CD called “Kansas” came out. I still love to listen to her. My favorite on the CD is “Trinity”. It came from a soundtrack of a movie I had been watching and I just had to have the CD. It’s really good.
