I dream of having this amazing office to work in so that we can feel “officey” at home (Is officey a word???). Of course, we already have a computer desk that has a cubby with a door on it and several shelves as well. The tower and monitor fit nicely. And then we also have a metal desk for another computer with assorted drawers in it. Very good.

But I really want something a lot classier that those desks. There is just something about an executive desk that really gets to me. They look really classy and…well….executive, don’t they. I like that. When I used to be a trucker, the dashboard would sort of wrap around me so that anything I needed was right there at hand. That type of desk is what I want in the office. Everything is so handy that way. You can turn and touch everything on your desk without any effort at all. And believe me, there are days when that needs to be that way in our house.

Yep, I want one of those desks. But for now, we are staying with the ones we have because they’re familiar and homey and that makes up for what we don’t have right now. But I can dream.

I confess, we have ratty chairs and the couch has gone “boing” at least a few times. That was not pleasant. Yet, we have that really lived in look in our livingroom. I know. It sounds more like a trailer park. But no, we live in an actual house with an actual foundation. What we really need is more modern furniture. Not likely to happen these days, of course. Why? The Google mess, of course.

See, Google slammed those of us who like to earn money at home working on our computers. So, now my income has dropped and we no longer can think about new furniture. Sigh. Some day soon, we will rise up again, sort of like the machines in the three Terminator movies. ROFL!!

Usually, at this time of year, thoughts of home improvement take a second seat to the holidays. But actually, now is a great time to find that one contractor to do your improvements like the siding on your home or office that you have been wanting to get for a long time. But it is so hard to find good contractors that are honest.

Now, you can find the Siding Contractors that will work for you from a service that does the search work for you. If you are seeking someone to install siding on your home or business, these folks will find the best available contractors who can see what you require, not what they want you to have. These folks are pre-screened for their professionalism and quality of work. They are licensed and insured to give you a peace of mind that you need when bringing someone to your home or office.

But they do more than just siding. This service will find those who will do any type of home improvement work you need. You go to the website where you select the project you have in mind. They will search the database and give you three possible contractors to do the work. You then select the one you want. Simple. Here’s one of the great parts about this. These are three FREE estimate appointments. Yes, I said FREE!!!

So, what are you waiting for? Now is a great time to set up appointments for after the holidays. Hey, you never know how busy the contractors are so you want to get in there as soon as possible.

The gist of it is that we are in need of a new television set. We have tried for a few months now thinking that it would last a few more years but the fact is we are running out of time. The set is about to go down the tubes, so to speak. It has been in our family now for about 10 years. Not bad for a television that runs far more than it was meant to run. And, of course, the fact remains that in less than a year, the analog television will pretty much be history, at least for the purpose of getting signal without help from a converter.

Okay, so we should go out and get a new set. Not as easy as all that. For one thing, it’s Christmas time. The funds are going out for presents for the family, something I look forward to and dread at the same time. LOL! Nope. We do not have the money to be using on a television right now. But I had my eye on one that is really not that expensive. But then, you think about all the extras that we are probably going to get too. What extras? Well, our vhs player is almost shot too. Then, we could use a new DVD player. But what is really intriguing to my husband are those little boxes called HDMI switches. He wants one of those to make it all work together. Now, my idea was to keep it simple, right? Not these days. No way. You have to bring in the techoweenies to get the job done in a sensible way. That’s why my husband is fixing the whole thing when we do get the set and accessories, not me. I have no clue. So there you are.

As I have said before, we live in a rural area of the Ozarks in what used to be a retirement village but these days it’s really more of a retirement and family village. Quite often, especially in the summer time, we will see the moving vans bringing new families and retired folks here from other parts of the country. They are from such varied places that they tend to form clubs or groups of people from a particular state.

Also often, we see the bigger moving vans that bring people who have a job with large companies that relocate them here for the purposes of starting up new offices or stores. It has happened once in a while that a family will come here because of a corporate relocation, meaning that the company will find and arrange for a place to live. I rather like that companies are willing to do that.

The main thing is that our area is growing pretty fast now. It will take our village many more times the number we have living here now to fill up but some day that will probably happen. Right now, you can still see wild life in your front yard on certain days. Not bad.

So, how well do you know them? Frankly, I thought I knew more than I did. Of course, one of the movies was one I have never seen so that sort of changes things. But where are you on the trivia expert list for Disney movies? Want to find out? Here is a quiz that will help you along.

And since it’s in the middle of the buying time for Christmas, I suggest you look into the whole Disney collection for the whole family. We have enjoyed many movies made by Disney. Most are a total hit, regardless of age or gender. Everyone loves Disney movies.

In our world, you never know what is lurking in your house. At this time, we have some resident aliens in the form of fur critters. They certainly qualify as strange if nothing else. These fur type people do some of the weirdest things I have ever seen.

But the weirdest one of all is our little boy cat, Gizmo. He came to us about 5 years ago. He still looks like a kitten since he is much smaller than our other cat, Kitty (Yes, I know. Very imaginative name, right?). Gizmo is very particular where he sleeps (he IS a cat…an alien cat. Anyone else seen the Cat From Outer Space? You just never know).

In the winter, Gizmo goes into the bathroom, shuts the door (he loves doors), parks directly in front of the heating vent, bunches and nests up the throw rugs. There is usually evidence that he has been in and around the sink as well. You know, one of these days, I want to get one of those bathroom vanities because I really think that would throw him for a loop, at least for a little bit. Right now, the mirror is not low enough for him to notice it. But if we had a vanity, he would have to look straight into his own eyes. That would be a treat to see his reaction. We have to think about doing that!!

I have to tell you that I love the website I am about to talk about. It is so much fun just being on the site because of the fun stuff that they have to sell you. No, this is not just so you can go buy something. I really do love it. Recently, I was sent some samples to try out. Boy, was this fun. Vat19, with the strange name, has some really awesome stuff to play with on their site. I am going to tell you about a couple things but you have to go see the rest for yourself.

vat19-a.jpg

When I opened the package, I had no idea that I would get such fun stuff. First thing I did was smell the inside of the package because it had a fragrance like watermelon. And what do you know? There was this pencil inside a plastic holder that smelled just like watermelon. I LOVE IT!! Apparently, these SMENCILS are made from recycled paper and the fragrance was added for fun. The fragrance will last up to two years, with or without the plastic container. Just think. They were made with recycled products. Very nice.

Next, I saw a box of what appeared to be colored candles. They looked like birthday candles. We just had to get a picture to show you so look to the side and you can see the candles with each flame that has the same color as the candle itself. Now, it isn’t as noticeable in the picture but those candles are looking red, green and yellow. I love that! Someone is going to get some great looking Color Flames Colored Candles for their birthday!!

And finally, we got snow. Yep, snow. Of course, where we live, snow happens but not right now. Today, it was in the 70s for a high. So, no snow. But yet we have snow anyway. This is a powder called Insta Snow Fake Snow Powder that works great when you put some water on it. Looks like the real deal, more or less. I can think of a couple of pranks I could do with that stuff. LOL!!!

And just for the heck of it, I wanted to mention this other item that would work great for people who want to read at night but do not want to disturb others with the light in the room. It’s called LightWedge Book Light and works by putting the wedge on the book. It illumines only the area of the page you want to read. Not bad!!! Are you convinced yet?

Okay, we talked about Monopoly, about the biggest selling board game on the planet but there are and have been others too. For instance, we have Boggle. Not a bad game. Been around a while. How about Scrabble? Now there’s a game that you can get the whole family to play. It takes some know how and a good dictionary to keep the fights down. LOL!!

So, are you planning on getting any board games this year? I have more, ya know. Cranium, Cube, Clue, Chess, Battleship (always a great game), Sorry, Candyland (is that still available?? I used to play that with my friends), Backgammon, Baffle, Jenga, Kismet, Checkers, Mastermind, Risk (that was one that I vowed never to play again. It would make me so mad, I’d lose it. Fun game.)

I ran across a game that I have not played in a whole lot of years but I loved it so much. Mille Bornes is a card game that you can get hooked on and it lasts for hours. A lot of fun for the family.

Think about it. Board games will allow everyone to play, most of them. It gives you a chance to be together on the big holiday instead of having everyone in different places.

When I was still a kid, my parents made sure I had some really good board games for Christmas. Then, when I wanted to play them, we played at least a couple of times all together. After that, I had friends who loved playing those games too. Board games might be passe’ or maybe not. I do believe that people are still interested in them because everyone can participate whereas computer games are difficult unless everyone is on their own computer.

So, what type of board games are still available? Well, of course, the old standard..Monopoly. That game alone has so many variations that it will take quite some time just viewing them. For instance, there is the standard game, the electronic bank edition, Spider-Man 3 Monopoly, Monopoly Jr. Disney edition, Disney Pixar Monopoly, Monopoly Spongebob, Monopoly Express, Littlest Pet Shop Edition, Monopoly Tropical Tycoon DVD Game, Monopoly, Here and Now and last but certainly not least, Monopoly Luxe with a $7,500 price tag. There are more, of course, but I needed to stop for a bit.

Anyone for Monopoly?
