Welcome back!

The long awaited Super Bowl Sunday is here! We have been actually looking forward to this since last year because we missed the last Super Bowl altogether. Gearing up for a game day is not the easiest in the world when you have thought of little else….well, other than the family, blogging, income, bills, pets and the weather, I mean….except the goodies and expecting the phone to ring right when the best play of the game comes on.

Ahem. So, we went to the store the other day to pick up the game day essentials like potato chips, dips, makings for the Frito pie we planned on making and a few other goodies that escape my mind at the moment.

The adventure was in Walmart, otherwise known as….if you love the product, don’t expect to see it ever again. We happened on an end cap that had a new form of Pringles! I usually do not get excited over potato chips. After all, they are just potatoes cut up into thin pieces, then dumped into grease to fry. YUCK! But I have a weakness for potato chips nevertheless. When suddenly, what to my wandering eyes did appear but a whole shelf of Pringles Extreme! Never having seen such a sight, I stopped and peered at the latest and greatest form…“Screamin’ Dill Pickle”!! Oh my!

If the product was anything like the name, I would be in snack heaven. I love pickles and add a favorite comfort snack food like Pringles, now that’s fantastic. So, we bought a couple of cans of the newest offering and took them home. These were supposed to be for the Super Bowl Sunday game. My curiosity would not allow us to let those cans sit. If we did and they were a disappointment, there would be nothing we could do about it. That would be the middle of the game when we opened them. NO! We had to do something and quick!

The plastic lid was removed carefully. The inner seal (which is the biggest pain to take off but I still am grateful since it means nobody has gone before us) whooshes off. There they are. Little chips stacked up nicely. I took one out, very carefully bit off a small portion and waited. It did not take long. BANG! Huge pickly chip taste straight to my mouth! It was as if a giant pickle was pressed into a potato chip, joining them together in a blissful taste.

Of course, we ate them already. Are you serious?!!! Yes, we did have to go back and get a few more cans. After all, we could then put them on a sandwich and be able to have the best of both worlds, pickle AND chip sandwich. WOW!!!

Where we live, a trip to Walmart could actually be the high point of the week although, frankly, I hope not. :) And as the old joke goes, if we find ourselves at Wally it must be Monday. Actually, as you know, it’s Wednesday, meaning we took an extra trip this week.

You know, I would love to take the time to go to a nice jewelry shop and at least look at some real luxury watches because I really believe that they would look terrific on my wrist. However, at Wally, we picked up a band so that it will fit my wrist better and got a battery for the one I own now. Of course, it was a gift from my Mom so there is no way I would give that up. But I can look, can’t I?

Yesterday, the fight for the Super Bowl prize went a step toward the winner. The Patriots won against the Chargers and the Giants were the winners against the Packers. I wanted to see the Packers against the Patriots. That would have been an awesome game. However, the game that will be fought on Feb. 3rd is going to be as good, I am certain.

We will be gearing up to watch the show ourselves. It promises to be a great match. But we have to get the right supplies for the game. Watching this on television has it’s major advantages to being at the game, you know. There you are at the game. If you have nosebleed section tickets, you can hardly see anything. But if you happen to be at home, watching on your big screen TV, seeing those guys thrashing it out on the field just like they have been taking testosterone boosters, tackling the guy with the ball. Yes, I admit it. I am a female who loves football but doesn’t do that great a job recapping the game. Sigh. So, I’m just going to go get the Cheetos and Pringles to squirrel away for the big date.

Despite the beautiful cars that roam our country, when you get into a rural area, it’s all about the pickup trucks. Did you notice that? We have. For instance, if I were living in a city, pickups might sell with a good price. Cars are more expensive, especially the ones that look really great. But you get into the country and try to buy a pickup. WOW! The price is way up there and the cars aren’t too bad. The secret appears to be that you go find the trucks in the city and the cars in the boonies.

Now, if you check out the pickups, you will find them decked out with all the goodies a guy can put on them. Are they working trucks? Not if the guy can get away with it. LOL! Yes, in a rural area there are farm trucks but I really do not think we’re talking about those, do you? Nope. The good ol’ boys around our area are buying the big, shiny dual cab pickups with all the truck accessories they can pack into the pickups. Why? To impress a girl, of course! Why else? Oh yeah, to feel manly. Sigh. Maybe they could find other, less expensive ways to do that, ya think?

Now what??!!!! Have you signed up for those book clubs yet? You know the ones, monthly clubs that you can buy one or a hundred books. That’s one kind. Then there are those who are willing to ship out 2-4 books each month so that you can always have reading material. Uh huh. Well, I signed up for both. At the time, I was really missing my reading. We did not have that many books and all had been read a couple of times, at least.

I had been to our small library several times. When that happens, it’s over until they get more. Sigh. But then I got some info in the mail about book clubs. I went online to see what was what. Not bad. I could get up to 4 books a month for not that much money. I signed right up. That wasn’t all. I also signed up for 3 book clubs that had genre specific books. Well, it was really 4. I forgot to count the cooking book club. So, after it was all said and done, I had 4 book clubs and the one that was sending out 4 books at a time. Not enough!!! I was constantly running out of reading material. I should say here that I didn’t get new books from the big 5 every month. Those were held in reserve for when I was really needing a book.

When the offer came out that I could have some suspense books from that place that sent out the 4, I could not stand it. I had to have them. Now I had 8 books a month. The company was not satisfied that I was getting just the 8 so they sent out some more for free! These were so that I could get an idea of a different kind. I ended up with them too!!! Are you beginning to get the picture here?

Picture this: A mountain of books and me in the middle. ACK!!! A nightmare? Not really. I would have loved that. Eventually, it wasn’t about the books but about the bills that came with them. I admit it. I am a bookaholic. I need my books. I must have books. But maybe in the future I could try to have them a few at a time.

Want to know the really crazy part? Now that I blog so much, I don’t have time to read but the books keep coming every month!!! I have boxes and boxes of books to read. What a life! I love it.

The Christmas celebration is always a fun time, always. We have nine members of the family all in one fairly large room, all opening presents and talking about what they got. It’s a barrel of laughs and loads of fun. There is just one problem I seem to have as does my husband. We cannot hear half of what was said. Why? Everyone gabs at once!! Haven’t you ever been in a family like that? We all love to talk or most of us do. In this particular family, we have five adults over the age of twenty one, two adults at age nineteen and eighteen and two younger teens, ages fourteen and thirteen. The house is full.

And everyone has the same problem, actually. No one can do sign language. None of us! Isn’t that awful since we all need to hear the rest of the group? There are times when the din gets to be pretty intense. On those occasions, I truly wish that I had subscribed to a subtitle service for the family. LOL! Yes, I know that isn’t really possible but I do wish it was. We have to find a way for us all to hear at the same time. It does not help that some of us “older folk” are starting to lose a tone or two anyway. So, low tone conversations are lost. Sigh. Yes, I do think a service like that would work well, don’t you? Well, maybe not but it was worth a try anyway.

At this time of year, it is not strange to see many Christmas displays on the houses all around where you live. I love looking at those lights and scenes. They are sometimes an inspiration for the season. Many have the Santa Claus statues and the reindeer. Others have the manger scene with the baby Jesus. Still others will have combos of both. But there is one thing that is the same with them all, they are beautiful exterior lighting displays that show the season of Christmas.

Do you have a tour of lights or displays in your area? It would be fun to take the family and just tour the displays. I know that gas is expensive so make it a gift for Christmas to the entire family. Just get out there and see the sights. This only happens at Christmas. All other displays are for other reasons and not nearly as plentiful. Don’t miss this!

If you have waited until now to buy the toys, it could be a real stretch to get them. But, the top toys this year are varied but more or less predictable. First, the Wii is on top of the games list. Everyone wants a Wii this year. Hot item. Don’t forget to add the games! Next, you will find the PS3 console and the bundles that go with it. After that, XBOX and Nintendo with PSP coming up on them. These are truly hot items in the games department.

If you are looking to surprise the boys and girls with something a bit different, the word is robots. You will simply have to look for yourself because the list is rather long and varied on that subject. I will say that the stores have stated that they are down on sales this year so it is possible to get that really great robot toy at the last minute.

Learning and educational toys are hot as well. It’s a great idea to give your children something that will teach them what the schools will not. You can start with children 3 and up with the wonderful learning toys available.

Whatever you may be looking for, now is the time to get out there and find it. There are only a very few shopping days left until Christmas. As of this writing, only 5 days are left. Boy, time sure flies when you’re having fits fun, doesn’t it.

Happy Shopping!!!

I love t-shirts with sayings on them, all sorts of sayings as long as they aren’t nasty. So, when I saw this website that sells custom t-shirts, I had to take a look at it. What I did not expect was the variety of the political t-shirts they have available. And of course, you do have the option to customize your shirts.

Actually, I think custom political t-shirts in an election year are great! They will give your message faster than any speech or comments made out in the world. Custom t-shirts tell what you want them to say in a way that is silent but gets the point across quickly and without argument. I love the idea.
