At one time, I did ask myself that question. Those were the good ol’ days. No, I’m kidding. All days are good for me. But when I asked myself that question it came with several others that I had to ask myself as well. The truth is that I have been to California when I drove a semi-truck. And if I were not already living here in rural Arkansas and loving where I live, I might just think about it again. For a few moments anyway.

What do you ask yourself when you want to move to another place? For instance, where would I want to live? And in what type of place? Every time I think about California, the first thing that comes to mind is that kid in The Karate Kid. He started out hating it there but liked it much better after the conflict was over. But I think he lived in Los Angeles, right? So, if you wanted to move there, would you start looking for apartments? Do you do this long before you go there to check it out? I would. Heck, I would start by looking up Los Angeles jobs and go from there. Hey, if you can’t find that, the rest would be pretty difficult to do, right?

To answer the question in the title, nope. I really do not think I would live there now. Rural life is just too good for me. Nope. Never met the Beverly Hillbillys.

Heh, I am thinking the exact opposite. Will I ever leave California? California is and has been turning into a place that I do not like anymore. I sure love the area. Being 45 min from the ocean and 30 min from the Mountains. But there are some issues that have me thinking if I should move. First is the price of everything. Can I ever afford to buy a House? Why is gas 40 cents more here then in Nevada? Second is traffic. Everyone knows traffic is bad in California. The high gas prices have taken some cars off the road, so that helps a little. Third is illegal immigration. Not a topic everyone loves, but still an important issue. I work in construction. Why is it that I know most of the people on the jobs don’t speak English. I know for a fact a lot of them have fake SSN and should not be working. Why do I get a McDonald’s advertisement in the mail that is in Spanish in huge text and English in little text. I am half Mexican, I wish my mom taught me Spanish when I was younger so at least I could understand them. I do not think people in the rest of the US know how bad it is getting here, and in other border states. Maybe not a big deal to some, but this is huge deal to me.

    Sorry for my long rant.

That would be a huge deal to me too. I used to live in Florida some years ago when all I saw were the signs in the windows that said “We ALSO speak ENGLISH”. HELLO!!! This is the United States where the accepted language is ENGLISH not Spanish or any other language.

I would most assuredly not appreciate an ad that had Spanish as the main language. I would not expect to go to another country and see ads that were mainly English just because I showed up. Uh no.

Gas prices are a hot topic right now anyway. But I would have major issues with gas that much higher than other places.

You rant is well worth it to me. Thank you so much for enlightening those of us who live in the back woods and do not see all of this.
