Welcome back!

I love t-shirts with sayings on them, all sorts of sayings as long as they aren’t nasty. So, when I saw this website that sells custom t-shirts, I had to take a look at it. What I did not expect was the variety of the political t-shirts they have available. And of course, you do have the option to customize your shirts.

Actually, I think custom political t-shirts in an election year are great! They will give your message faster than any speech or comments made out in the world. Custom t-shirts tell what you want them to say in a way that is silent but gets the point across quickly and without argument. I love the idea.

Once the holidays get into the swing, we found that we need some pretty great recipes to have on hand for the festivities. The usual include the turkey and dressing, of course, but many people had turkey for Thanksgiving so they want something else. My Mom does fix a really good ham that she slices up for sandwiches since we have a big family gathering to open presents. We do not just open a few here. There are a bunch so it takes quite a while. Mom does not want to have to do a lot of cooking and neither do I.

So, we get out the good recipes like Quick Onion Dip my husband has on his cooking blog called Tin Foil Chef. He actually has several that work nicely for the holidays. One is the ever popular Green Bean Casserole.

Other places have such wonderful recipes as Christmas Snowball Cookies from Feeding Time At The Zoo, a pretty yummy looking Crispy Chicken from Start Cooking and a whole list of holiday goodies from Tinka-Bella.

Why not give these recipes a try over the holidays. If you do not see what you like, give me a quick note in the comments and I will try to find what you’re looking for. Thanks for visiting my blog.

Happy Shopping!!

What I love about this time of year are the songs that are always being sung and played in the stores, on the radio and on the television. So many favorites from a long time ago are the ones I love the best. Each time I hear them, it puts me more and more into the Christmas spirit. The first one I came across was by the Gaither Vocal Band singing The Christmas Song. Featured are David Phelps and Mark Lowry.

And one more for your pleasure. This time it’s David Phelps alone singing Oh Holy Night! I hope you enjoy these wonderful videos of Christmas songs.

Usually, at this time of year, thoughts of home improvement take a second seat to the holidays. But actually, now is a great time to find that one contractor to do your improvements like the siding on your home or office that you have been wanting to get for a long time. But it is so hard to find good contractors that are honest.

Now, you can find the Siding Contractors that will work for you from a service that does the search work for you. If you are seeking someone to install siding on your home or business, these folks will find the best available contractors who can see what you require, not what they want you to have. These folks are pre-screened for their professionalism and quality of work. They are licensed and insured to give you a peace of mind that you need when bringing someone to your home or office.

But they do more than just siding. This service will find those who will do any type of home improvement work you need. You go to the website where you select the project you have in mind. They will search the database and give you three possible contractors to do the work. You then select the one you want. Simple. Here’s one of the great parts about this. These are three FREE estimate appointments. Yes, I said FREE!!!

So, what are you waiting for? Now is a great time to set up appointments for after the holidays. Hey, you never know how busy the contractors are so you want to get in there as soon as possible.

We have been watching television this weekend. I cannot believe how many really good Christmas shows there are and have been on lately. One of the networks, Lifetime, has been running a 25 days of Christmas. The movies have been awesome. All the way from A Diva’s Christmas Carol to Deck The Halls.

Then, on other channels I saw one that I had not seen in several years…Dudley Moore in Santa Claus: The Movie. He plays an elf who simply wants some recognition from the Big Guy but cannot seem to get it so he heads to a big city and hooks up with a toy company owner. Problem is, the owner is greedy. He finds out that the elf IS an elf and can make certain substances that make a candy for the kids. When they eat the candy, they can fly. Mr. Greedy wants more. He wants to take over Christmas without the elf knowing this. It’s a good movie for the family.

Tune in to the Christmas movies while you can do so. They are entertaining, uplifting and just plain fun.

Christmas shopping is worse than ever before, in my opinion. Things are flying off the shelves in the one discount store we have in our area. We do have a second store but often the prices are higher or they do not have the items that I wanted in the first place. I do feel sorry for those of you who are looking for toys this year. What with the recalls and the mobs at the stores, it’s a wonder anyone is bringing anything home at this late date.

Make no mistake, it is getting quite late to find any good toys. The stores do carry some that they put out during the last week and, yes, they do have deliveries but I would not want to risk the thought of not finding the one thing my kid wants for Christmas because I waited till the last few days to pick up the most popular toys for the season.

This year, I have no idea what the popular toys are because I have no small children anymore. But I remember in days past what it was like. The biggest item I can recall was the Cabbage Patch kids. Oh brother. Those things sold for monster amounts of money and they were not available anywhere after a certain time in early December. Now, you can buy a Cabbage Patch Kid for about $15 at your local discount store. Where is the justice here?

So, for those of you who still can’t get a clue and shop sooner, I give you my best blessing hoping that you are fast enough to snag the item before that really large woman over there comes after it. Oh wait. That’s me!!!

For years, I have heard some pretty strange and weird phrases and words. Some are as old as I am. Others I have seen or heard in the last very few years. Sometimes people put the strangest things together or have words that I think they made up!

See, I know there are words that I have no clue about…like peptides. Not a clue. And then there is “SNAP!” Does that make any kind of sense? I think it means that something is really good. Jackalope? That one is totally strange since there is no such animal but there are rumors. How about mesothelioma lawyer? Saw that one recently. Not a clue at all. There are sayings and phrases that make no sense to me either like “I know, right?” What is that all about? Of course, there is the ever popular “Dude” and “WORD”. What do these things mean??? Since I am not totally stupid, I sort of get what they mean but really. And where on earth does it become necessary to say the word “like” as every other word in a sentence??? Like, I thought it was strange to say like in a sentence that really, like, has no point, like, to it at all. Like, you know what I mean?

Perhaps I have buried my head too far into the sand to get these things. Very little about today’s speech makes sense to me anyway. And for what it’s worth, I do not think I am that old either.

This particular post has nothing to do with buying anything, at least right here. But it has everything to do with the big bully google and what it is about to do to bloggers who, for whatever reason, have not complied with a terms of service that none of us agreed to with google. See, google wants to run the net. Google wants to get bloggers and website owners to comply with their orders. The funny thing is that those of us who did not sign up to be bullied by them are getting spanked and then delisted by them. Do you know why they are doing this?

Glad you asked. This goes back to the paid to post companies that hire people who have blogs to write posts and reviews for them. When the blogger contracts to do that and writes the post, they get paid a certain amount of money. Now, in the meanwhile, google is getting people to put icons and widgets on their blogs in order to make money. The blogger keeps the widget there and when someone clicks on it, they can get paid…very small amounts and not paid until a certain amount is reached. Those programs are called adsense and adwords. They belong to google.

So, what’s the problem, right? Well, seems that google is not happy to have only some of the money pie. They want it all. The companies that hire the bloggers sometimes use the google page rank to qualify bloggers to work for them. Most of the companies did this for quite a while. Since google feels it’s power now, they decided to change things by dropping the page rank to an unacceptable level for the companies so that they would fire the bloggers who are no longer qualified.

In the meanwhile, google expects the blogger to come, hat in hand, admit that they did wrong and beg to get back in the good graces of the big bully google. If that does not happen by the time they want it, google will delist the blogs involved. When that happens, they will get what they want, to destroy the blogger’s income.

Here’s the punchline. The bloggers who do this paid to post blogging are, for the most part, in need of the cash that they get from these posts. Usually, they are women at home taking care of kids, grandpas and grandmas trying to make a buck to supplement their incredibly puny social security checks, disabled folks, young people who have no other income, people who do not want to end up homeless. Does google care that they are doing this to people? NO! They do not. All they care about is that someone is cutting into their money pie.

If google must strike anyone, it’s about time they decided to hit the major companies instead of the little guys. Why don’t they? Because the big guys will slam them so hard, they won’t know which way is up. But the little guys are not strong enough to fight the big bad bully google…alone. Now it’s time for bloggers to rise up and resist the google bully. Tell google how you feel. Do not be afraid of their tactics. That’s what it’s all about…fear. If they can get you afraid of them enough, they win…you lose. Of course, the blogger pretty much loses anyway because this fight is really between the big bully and the big companies.

Take the time to put in your two cents here in the comments field or in your own blog and link back to this one. It’s time to let google know that we will not take these bullying tactics without a fight.

Mom Loves Flowers

My Mom loves flowers. Every year, we are able to give her a few of the roses that pop up on our rosebush. But that happens around April or so. Sometimes, it lasts until Mother’s Day but that’s about it. She loves the look, the scent of the flowers. So, I thought that I would have the idea of just giving her mountains of flowers to put all over her house. Of course, that would smell like…uh, no I had better not do that.

But since I brought it up, I might just want to give her some after Christmas because then no one has them until spring unless bought through a florist or buying from a place that sells wholesale flowers so that they would come in bunches instead of one or two at a time. Well now. The price would certainly be right for doing that and you certainly get more than in a conventional florist shop. I might just do that after the holidays. January and February are some of the gloomiest months of the year. Something has to make it better.

The truth is that I have never known what a “guffaw” was until tonight. It’s totally crazy. I mean, I knew what it was supposed to be. I did see Mary Poppins. Remember the scene when Dick Van Dyke’s character was telling about laughter and what it sounded like? Well, he did cover a number of them at the time.

However, my experiences have taught me many things but the guffaw was not one of them. Tonight, I found out. See, I wrote a story about our dying television set. It isn’t gone yet but it will be some day soon. And I mentioned my husband who really likes gadgets, all kinds, so I mentioned a few of the gadgets.

That wasn’t what did it. What really did it was when I specifically said something about needing a technoweenie to do the work on putting everything together when buying a new set and accessories. I knew when my husband had read the story. There was this silence, then what sounded like choking, then the “guffaw”. You know, laughter. It took me a minute to figure out that’s what he was doing. I actually thought he was choking. Must have been the cough drop he usually has in his mouth. Musta swallered it.
