« Whatcha Want For Christmas? Hmmm? Think You’ll Get It? | Side Note: Know What A Guffaw Is? I Found Out Tonight »

Welcome back!

The gist of it is that we are in need of a new television set. We have tried for a few months now thinking that it would last a few more years but the fact is we are running out of time. The set is about to go down the tubes, so to speak. It has been in our family now for about 10 years. Not bad for a television that runs far more than it was meant to run. And, of course, the fact remains that in less than a year, the analog television will pretty much be history, at least for the purpose of getting signal without help from a converter.

Okay, so we should go out and get a new set. Not as easy as all that. For one thing, it’s Christmas time. The funds are going out for presents for the family, something I look forward to and dread at the same time. LOL! Nope. We do not have the money to be using on a television right now. But I had my eye on one that is really not that expensive. But then, you think about all the extras that we are probably going to get too. What extras? Well, our vhs player is almost shot too. Then, we could use a new DVD player. But what is really intriguing to my husband are those little boxes called HDMI switches. He wants one of those to make it all work together. Now, my idea was to keep it simple, right? Not these days. No way. You have to bring in the techoweenies to get the job done in a sensible way. That’s why my husband is fixing the whole thing when we do get the set and accessories, not me. I have no clue. So there you are.

Maybe you could ask the people who normally give you gifts to band together to buy you a t.v. or give cash this year instead. Totally tacky, I know, but there you have it. Anyway, I DO relate to the technoweenie part — hubby bought a plasma last Jan and OMG!! at the wires and this and that we had to buy to hook it to the VCR, Satellite reciever and DVD! And you NEVER want to move the dratted thing, because then you have to figure out where they all go again!

    Nightmare!

    Good luck, Merry Christmas!

Oh my goodness. I am really not sure we would want to get into that nightmare!!! Thanks for the tip. Our family is pretty tapped at this time of year. We will likely wait it out and when it’s necessary, we will get one but not a plasma. Most likely just a digital..probably somewhere between 27in. and 32in. I guess. I dunno.

Thanks for commenting. I think you helped make up our minds about not wanting the plasma even if we had the money for it. ACK!!

There most definitely is a “viral” component to TV shopping: First the TV, then of course a new stand to put in on, then I might as well plunge ahead and buy that new surround-sound systems . . . and on and on. Instead of having your friends buy you a TV, get them to present you with a gift certificate to your favorite electronics store! For about $9 billion, of course.

LOL! Yes, I know what you mean about how “viral” it is to tv shopping. Sigh. It’s like potato chips, you cannot get just one thing. You have to have all the extras that work with it. If you do not do that, you miss major things. It is definitely a conspiracy to get us to spend more and more money!!!
