When I was still a kid, my parents made sure I had some really good board games for Christmas. Then, when I wanted to play them, we played at least a couple of times all together. After that, I had friends who loved playing those games too. Board games might be passe’ or maybe not. I do believe that people are still interested in them because everyone can participate whereas computer games are difficult unless everyone is on their own computer.

So, what type of board games are still available? Well, of course, the old standard..Monopoly. That game alone has so many variations that it will take quite some time just viewing them. For instance, there is the standard game, the electronic bank edition, Spider-Man 3 Monopoly, Monopoly Jr. Disney edition, Disney Pixar Monopoly, Monopoly Spongebob, Monopoly Express, Littlest Pet Shop Edition, Monopoly Tropical Tycoon DVD Game, Monopoly, Here and Now and last but certainly not least, Monopoly Luxe with a $7,500 price tag. There are more, of course, but I needed to stop for a bit.

Anyone for Monopoly?

Some day, I will have a new HDTV that hangs on the wall in a fantastic house with light colors. We currently have a 27″ analog tv that will soon have to be replaced due to it wearing out. The picture turns fuzzy occasionally. Sound is getting to be a bit more difficult with the movies. It simply is getting to be a little old. I hate it when comfortable things get old and worn out.

But I do know how to dream so I dream big. In fact, my HDTV is going to be 52″ plasma and mounted on the wall with a plasma mount. I am definitely moving on up to the east side! HA! Of course, that’s not all I want to do with the house. The kitchen will have a great oven and top in the island in the center of the room. Huge refrigerator with lots of freezer space. We want cabinets everywhere with a walk in pantry.

There should be at least 3 bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, an office, a family room with loads of bookshelves and where the plasma tv is living. I know I’m missing something here. Frankly, I think that would be about a 3,500 sq. ft. home. I can live with that. And plenty of acres for the dog to run. Yes, I think I could live very nicely like that.

For some years, I had heard Patsy Cline on the radio. Then, she died in a plane crash in 1963. For a while, the songs she sang were heard. But after a while, they faded into the night and I did not hear much of her music until Loretta Lynn’s movie, Coal Miner’s Daughter, came out. Once again, I heard Patsy Cline songs being sung by Beverly D’Angelo. She sounded just like Patsy. How refreshing to hear her again.

Here is an old recording of Patsy Cline singing Walkin’ After Midnight.

I was reminded of a really great movie that Dick Van Dyke was in some years ago called Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The movie is good for the whole family, something that is sadly lacking in today’s offerings, for the most part. If you are looking for really good movies for the kids, this one is a gem. Loved by all of our extended family, we bring it out when someone wants to see a clean and happy movie. Here is the title song from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!!

Why not give this movie for a fun present to the kids or the whole family!! Something to watch on those cold, snowy nights.

I am a Trekkie and not ashamed to admit it. For years, I have loved the original series, Next Generation and all of the movies. They are fantastic. I do have one problem with the last movie made…no one should kill off Data regardless of the story. BAH!

But the rest of the movies and series are great. With that in mind, I did come across a video song that covers the theme of the original series quite well. The only thing is that this is a bit different, just a little. Here is Star Trekkin’.

Were you impressed? LOL!

We have lived in this area of Arkansas, the Ozarks, for almost 10 years. In all that time, we have only had a few really cold winters. But I have to tell you that when we do, they are extremely cold. Now, I do realize that to those who live way up north, this isn’t terribly cold. But to those of us who are not used to cold, it’s bitterly cold at times.

One of these days, because of the impending cold weather, I am going to bring out our jackets to take a look at them and hope that they will do for the winter. Unfortunately, they will be sadly lacking in the bulky, incredibly warm jackets they need to be. Anyone with an ounce of sense would get one of those North Face jackets, right? Well, maybe some day, we can do that but for now, we get to drag out the jackets we’ve had for a couple of years and make do one more time. Maybe soon, we can actually win a contest or something!

I really do not recall how old I was when my Mom and Dad started going out on “dates”. I must have been pretty young since I needed a babysitter. I think I drove her crazy…but that’s a story I can tell in a minute. Mom and Dad would get ready for these dancing dates. I can understand now why they went out like that. However, in those days, it was a miracle if I thought about anyone besides myself.

They would start getting ready, dressing up in some snazzy stuff. Dad would be in a suit. What was so great about his suit was really the silver cufflinks that he loved to wear when he and Mom went out. I remember that they sparkled. And that’s all I remember about them! But Mom loved Dad. I think those were a present from her. He loved them and wore them each time they went out.

Now, when they left, I had free reign to drive the babysitter nuts. And I got ‘er done too! I think she babysat me twice. One time, I locked myself in my parents’ bedroom and wouldn’t come out until they got home. That was quite a while after my bedtime, I’m sure. The other time, I just threw things all over the room so that she had to clean it up before they showed back home. I was terrible to her. She only babysat me twice. My parents were not amused. Sigh.

I took my niece and my Mom to the doctor today. My niece had hurt her knee at school walking up 5 flights of stairs. The school was good enough to take her to the clinic in town where she had a set of xrays that showed she had a small tear in her muscle and a small amount of fluid leaking.

Now, this girl was hurting so badly that she was unable to think of anything else except that. When she went to the nurse’s office to get the pain meds that were prescribed to my niece, the nurse decided that she had gotten sick from them and refused to hand them to her. Of course, she called home. Her mother was furious with the nurse. I certainly do not blame her for that. Instead of helping, the nurse gave my niece some crutches that were not adjusted to her height and told her to walk around the room with them. This made the knee and her underarms hurt even more. She left the nurse’s office and called home immediately. My niece was able to take time off from her classes today to come home and see the doctor. She goes to school at a college prep school where only the top 1% of the students in our state are able to attend.

Our doctor told her the same thing, essentially, as the clinic doctor and gave her a prescription for a knee brace. Now, if you are shopping for that kind of thing, this one is great. I had not noticed the type of brace before. This particular one has a metal brace inside the material on both sides of her knee and leg. It goes from about 7-8 inches below the knee to above the knee about the same amount. There is a hole placed for the knee in the material. It slides on and has velcro strips that keep it in place.

When we went into the doctor’s office, she could not place her weight on the knee. Too painful. The doctor said that she would be able to walk with the brace and without the crutches very soon. This brace is really great!! It has done the job for her. And her knee is not hurting nearly as bad as before. Bravo!!!

This is one I should put on my wish list for the family. Fat chance! Are you looking for a really good deal on an HDTV for Christmas? Or maybe you want one for yourself as a reward possibly? Let me tell you about this one place that has a lot of goodies on their site. And you really should check out their Great Deal Of The Day too.

Second Act has the HDTV for you. Doesn’t matter what you’re looking for either. I can run a few names past you. How about Sharp, Hitachi, JVC, Samsung? Are you familiar with those? Second Act has those and many more to choose from. And they have a Great Deal Of The Day each day that changes at 7am CST. The current great deal is running through tonight but will be gone by morning. So, if you are looking for a Samsung 56 inch HDTV, you had better hurry.
