Welcome back!

Don’t you like to play with the idea of a makeover to a part of you or your home? A makeover would not work for me. LOL! But a makeover in our kitchen and bathrooms would be fantastic. Yet, it is unlikely to happen anytime soon. But when it does, I have plans!! For instance, our kitchen faucets are really bad. One is sort of broken off and is very tough to turn on and off. The other one wants to drip, drip, drip all the time. So, what do we do to fix that?

I checked out a few types of faucets to see what we would like and would use. There were a few that looked okay but the kohler faucets looked great. They seem to be easy to handle. I had a couple of personal favorites but I didn’t want to influence your choices.

Then, I decided to take a look at kohler DTV custom showers in the bathroom. WOW! Those are pretty good. Actually, I saw the word “custom” and that did it for me. They have several to choose from and you can pick the one you want. That is awesome.

With a new shower in the bathroom, my thoughts turn back to the kitchen. You know, if the faucets get replaced, that sink is going to look pretty bad. What about changing out the sink too? So, I went to look at Stainless steel kitchen sinks and it was great there too. You can see your face in the stainless steel! I love that.

In the end, I am thinking strongly about all this because the company says that they have free shipping on the faucet and accessories over $99. How about that?

What is it like for you when a bad day shows up? For me, it’s the phone ringing thirty times a day, usually at supper time, during a particularly good movie, nap time…yes, I love naps, cats with kitty-tude..both at once, dog leaving a green cloud all over the house, machines that will not work as promised, machines that will not work that did not promise, the one thing that you need for the meal wasn’t bought and on and on it goes. There is no end to this. In fact, ever hear the song that never ends? Well, this is the bad hair day that never ends. *groan*

Am I a cartoon character here? The song in the title is in my mind. I feel like I have little balloons above my head (you know, the cartoon kind) saying things like..”why don’t you take me on a sea cruise”? What? On the royal caribbean, I suppose? Or “take me away to the happy farm with trees and flowers…they’re coming to take me away, ha ha, he he, to the funny farm” OR “raindrops keep falling on my head”. Sigh. The day just gets better and better, doesn’t it.

If you are worried about recalled toys this year, I have a website for you to access. Please go there and check out the toys that are on recall so that your children are not affected by this problem. For those who have not noticed, many recalled items are from China. Please be extra careful to choose only those toys that are from the U.S. or have not occurred on the recall list. I have to say that if I were buying toys, I would certainly not buy any toys from China no matter how much I thought they were safe.

Please remember Aqua Dots that have the date rape drug ON the beads. If a child swallows it, they could become incredibly sick or die. Here is the Recalled Toys page for you:

Toy Recall Alert–Check BEFORE you buy!

Be safe out there and Happy Shopping!!

ACK! Did I really say that? I do not love to make a Christmas list for myself, which is what the whole family expects everyone to do each year. Some of our family will not do it. I would applaud them but I need to have that list from them too!!

Why is it that we always need those lists? Because no one ever really knows what someone wants for Christmas. In my case, each year, I would write out list after list (when I was a kid) and gave them all to my parents in the hope that they would pick out the one thing I truly wanted and give it to me without my having to hint, hint, hint about it. That was because when I did that, they found something else, not because they wanted to. Usually, it was because the item was gone by the time they shopped for it.

These days, if you have some really good things on the lists, you can find something for someone eventually. What can you get people in your family? Hmmm, try those game boards I was speaking of in previous posts. For adults, try the movies…always a favorite in our family, raymond weil watches, tshirts, a new puppy? We have puppies to give away. Want one? The kids always want computer games and games that work on the television.

You know, I could go on and on about the things that a person can buy for another person. But the best gift of all is the one that you know they want, you get it for them in love and then you watch their face when they open the gift on Christmas day. I think that is about the best gift in the world for me.

This year has been, to say the least, busy. I have wanted to find a way to go on a vacation for months but it was a “no way” to me because something always comes up. Ever been there? Yep, I sit in front of the computer, looking at all the places I could be going. Sigh. It’s not fair, is it? I can count on one hand the number of times I actually had a vacation.

But there is one tiny little difference between you and me. When I was trucking, I got to go to almost all the states in the U.S. plus Canada. It was awesome. The one thing I had problems with, especially when I was first starting out, was what to take in the luggage. And how much luggage do I take? Well, you learn quickly that you do not pack six suitcases when one will do. Why? Because you lug that stuff all over the country and then, when you get ready to unload and go home, all that luggage is still in the sidebox, having never been opened…even once. Oh, you learn all right.

I suppose this is going to be a small rant about this particular computer game. Thing is, it is a dangerous game to put in the hands of kids. Yet, they get a hold of the thing and play it when the parents are unaware of it. What game am I talking about? Grand Theft Auto and all the upgrades.

This game teaches boys, especially, to not respect women who are depicted in this game as hookers. Women are in bikinis and skimpy clothes. They are taught to run from the police as they steal a car, even the police car can be stolen. Multiple shootings occur because to win, the participant has to kill those who chase him.

Screen shots show bloody aftermaths with bodies lying in the road next to cars. hijacking cars which is okay because the player has to do this to escape. Stealing is also part of the game and guns are readily available to the player.

Most of the game is shooting, violence and blood. I encourage you to make sure your children are not subjected to this game at a young age. Know what your children are doing online. It may surprise you!

In case you have not been around my blog for a while, I am an ex over-the-road trucker. Have I got stories to tell about that. It was 8 1/2 years of driving a semi truck down the road, never really knowing what was around the next curve. Sometimes, it was a big surprise and not always pleasant.

The one thing that a driver could actually fear is the semi truck accident. Oh, I had a couple of benders in a parking lot, but what I am talking about are the ones that will take away your carreer and it can happen in a heartbeat. One minute, you’re cruising down the road, minding your own business, and the next thing you know, the world is upside down. Cars are screeching to a halt all around. Your only hope now is that no one got killed. It happens.

If you drive a truck, PLEASE watch out for the other guy, no matter how stupidly they drive.

Yes, living is really easy in Arkansas, especially where we live since it is a beautiful area with deer roaming around in our front yard. But there is one huge danger if you are not careful, really careful. Golf balls. Yes, I said golf balls. Flying, dropping into your sunroof, clonking you on the head golf balls. Beware!

Where we live are a couple of golf courses, one that runs right across a major road in our village. Makes life interesting when you want to drive along on Sunday with your family. Bang!! A golf ball hits your windshield. No, it did not break it. This is my story and mine have happy endings, got it? The kids love to gather the golf balls so you stop and start gathering because the old duffers have been on the course again. The best part? Daddy can play tomorrow!!!

The problem I have in our neck of the woods is that the banks do not always have what some of the larger banks in bigger cities have, namely the little extras in those accounts. These are usually very valuable and are sorely missed in our area.

WaMu has those little extras that you look for in a bank and a checking account. It is, of course, free checking plus free checks for life. I really liked that feature. Then you can have free ATM withdrawals all over the world. Hey, I love that idea. I’ve been in places where I needed funds but the ATM didn’t want to work with my card. I also like the idea of the free gold MasterCard debit card. Very nice. The big word in all of this is FREE!

Okay, we talked about Monopoly, about the biggest selling board game on the planet but there are and have been others too. For instance, we have Boggle. Not a bad game. Been around a while. How about Scrabble? Now there’s a game that you can get the whole family to play. It takes some know how and a good dictionary to keep the fights down. LOL!!

So, are you planning on getting any board games this year? I have more, ya know. Cranium, Cube, Clue, Chess, Battleship (always a great game), Sorry, Candyland (is that still available?? I used to play that with my friends), Backgammon, Baffle, Jenga, Kismet, Checkers, Mastermind, Risk (that was one that I vowed never to play again. It would make me so mad, I’d lose it. Fun game.)

I ran across a game that I have not played in a whole lot of years but I loved it so much. Mille Bornes is a card game that you can get hooked on and it lasts for hours. A lot of fun for the family.

Think about it. Board games will allow everyone to play, most of them. It gives you a chance to be together on the big holiday instead of having everyone in different places.
