Of all the things that I wondered about, this wasn’t one of them. Apparently, gay representation has been declining in the last couple of years on television. Most of the shows that still have gays are on ABC with one on NBC. CBS, Fox and CW are not having that type of character in a lead or supporting role.

I realize that this is not usually the forum for such posts but I need to say this. If we were to have representation from literally every group that wanted it on television, I do not believe there would be much story line for any show. There were a few very blatant shows that made it perfectly clear this was a gay show. When that happened, I stopped watching. Know why? Not because of “homophobia” as some would say but because it was thrown in my face over and over. Gay this, gay that. Good night, do we all have to know this is gay, gay, gay???

I really do not need to know everything comes up gay because it does not. You know, I have a lifestyle too. It includes many things, some of which I do put here but I do not sit here and write in that my lifestyle is this and you had better take it. No. Whatever lifestyle I have, you might be able to see if you look closely but I am not flaunting it so that it’s in your face, like it or not.

Sigh. I believe that the networks are finally seeing that blatant “gayness” is not wanted on the mainstream television. Neither is in-your-face anything else. Those of us who watch television want to get away from troubles, not find them in our faces. We love the fantasy of the so-called perfect family that has a small problem. We love the wholesome children and the sometimes corny things that go on in middle American towns. It’s a feel good deal and we love it.
